Ohio Strain Review:

Triangle Kush

Josh D's Iconic Strains Make Their Way To Ohio!

Packaging: First Impressions

Josh D Tier II cannabis is grown out of Calyx Peak in Akron, OH. Josh D is the name of the Tier II label for Calyx, named after famous cannabis industry pioneer, Josh Del Rosso, who manages the company. Their Tier I label is known on the Ohio market as Song. We’ll be taking a look at a Song strain in the coming days, so watch out for that.

Calyx Peak cannabis is bottled in thick glass containers with white plastic lids. The glass itself is entirely white. It is worth noting that patients cannot see the nugs until the bottle is opened. The glass itself is very heavy and durable. It feels as though you’ve bought the Rolex of medical cannabis. The label itself, however, is a bit basic. This lessens the effect.

These containers can be easily recycled or even reused as spice jars or condiment containers for trips or picnics. While the overall presentation is a mixed bag, I am in love with the look and feel of the jars. A few tweaks and this could easily be my favorite packaging.

Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle

This is not a particularly impressive cannabis at first glance. Nugs in my bottle were very small, about the size of a pea, sometimes smaller. This will likely result in a good, clean grind in your grinder. But those looking for thick, meaty nugs, well…you will be disappointed by these bite-sized pieces.

Up close, this cannabis exhibits a very lush forest of trichomes, with rich green leaves beneath the sea of glistening white and honey brown. I do wish the nugs were just a little more substantial, but some strains simply don’t yield large nugs. And bite-sized pieces like these are excellent for quick grinding, or even finger grinding on the fly.

How Does It Grind?

Some strains can be a pain to grind up, while others can grind too quickly, resulting in a less desirable powdery grind. But some strains … they just grind perfectly. And as expected, the tiny nugs from my bottle did just that.

The aromas of this cannabis were unlocked with just one turn of my grinder. And in less than three or four turns, I had the perfect grind for vaping. This strain was easy on the hands to grind, so patients with pain or neuropathy in their fingers shouldn’t have much trouble grinding this medical cannabis themselves.

Smell Before Vaping

This bud’s for you! But for real, the Humulene is on full display from the second you open the bottle. Humulene delivers an intense hops aroma, like opening a fresh bottle of ice cold beer.

The smell that awakens in the grinder gives the senses a feeling as if you were smelling the air of a different planet for the first time. There’s fresh pine, a hint of sage, and vivid notes of hops, but there’s something dazzling and otherworldly about the mixture. Those who like some fruity notes in their strains will be left wanting. But if you enjoy an earthly aroma with your cannabis, you will be bewildered.

Triangle Kush Taste Test

I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer and a Pax portable vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.

Sometimes a beautifully earthy aroma results in a dirty earthy taste. Triangle Kush does an excellent job of avoiding this problem, layering the different terpenes in a such a way that the various flavors shifted with each inhale and exhale.

Perhaps the only negative is that the hops aftertaste dragged on a lot longer than expected. Like A LOT longer. This is one strain to vape while drinking something to flush out the aftertaste, be it water or your favorite drink. Triangle Kush would pair very well with a glass of dry red wine before bed.

Medicinal Benefits and Side Effects I Noted

The medicinal benefits noted below are for educational purposes only, and are not a substitute for the advice of a medical practitioner or licensed budtender.

This is a THCA-heavy strain, packing a whopping 23.77% THCA in the bottle I purchased. For those unaware, THCA is an absolutely amazing cannabinoid that offers therapeutic benefits to mental health, anti-inflammation and neuroprotective qualities.

These qualities are on full display roughly one minute after my first hit of Triangle Kush, and continued long after my fourth and final bag from my Arizer ExtremeQ. My muscles began to relax and I slipped into a gentle state of euphoria. Though relaxed, my mind felt calm and energized, ready to be creative or just chill. Anxiety and depression were greatly tempered during and following medication.

Inflammation and neuropathy in my feet and toes subsided significantly. My arms and elbows also felt rubbery and relaxed. For those who enjoy couch-lock, this strain should do the trick.

Triangle Kush also carries with it a sativa-like creative burst. If you are sensitive to sativa strains, this is a nice way to experience some of the effects without the intense head rush that can sometimes happen with those strains.

Final Thoughts on Triangle Kush

While the nugs of Triangle Kush are small, they each packed a serious punch. This once again proves that sometimes great things come in small packages.

Triangle Kush is a fascinating strain that will no doubt be a favorite among indica-lovers, especially those who love a good late night strain. And this one can provide a gentle euphoria while easing the muscles and relaxing anxiety and depression. But expect to feel a spark of creativity before you trail off to the land of slumber.

Calyx Peak in Akron has focused their brand on award-winning strains cultivated by Josh Del Rosso, and Triangle Kush is practically a knockout. Be sure to check out this strain at your Ohio medical marijuana dispensary.
