Josh D OG Kush Story

The OGest of OG hits CLE.

Packaging: First Impressions

Josh D Tier II cannabis comes from the cultivator, Calyx Peak, out of Akron, Ohio. Like other strains, Josh D OG Kush Story is packaged in a thick white glass jar. The feel is excellent, but it’s impossible for patients to see inside the jars.

The end is nigh for these white jars, though. I’ve been informed by representatives at Calyx Peak that Josh D and Song will soon be moving to clear jars. Expect this transition in the coming months. They will also be changing their labels soon, so stay tuned for that update!

Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle

This is about as OG as cannabis strains can get! Josh D has several OG strains on the market, including O’Ryan OG, Josh D OG and OG Kush Story (to name a few). If you’re holding a nug of Josh D OG Kush Story in your hands, then you’re holding one of the single most classic strains ever crafted, dating all the way to the late 90s.

According to the reps at Calyx Peak, this cannabis stems from the original OG Kush line, created by Josh Del Rosso and Matt “Bubba” Berger. OG, for those unaware, stands for Original Gangster, though some Califorians will claim the OG stands for Ocean Grown (it doesn’t).

The look of this cannabis is almost shiny. As I moved the nugs around in my fingers, the trichomes kept catching the light, glistening and twinkling like tiny diamonds. Honestly, I couldn’t stop staring at this one. While the green surface isn’t particularly sharp, the crystallized trichomes were dazzling.

How Does It Grind?

Nugs in my jar were about the size of a quarter or smaller. They ground up rather quickly, with little effort, but not so quick to suggest an over-dried cannabis. I found that this strain didn’t yield a lot of ground bud in my grinder. Four nugs got me about 2-3 bowls in my Arizer vaporizer. Patients may want to take this into account when grinding their medication.

Smell Before Vaping

Like Josh D OG, this strain is pretty OG in terms of smell. The Caryphyllene terpene struck my nostrils first, reminding me of fresh ground cumin. The Limonene hit second, like a fresh lemon squeeze.

This was followed by a strong floral push on the backend of the aroma. Josh D OG Kush Story is a very rich smelling cannabis, loaded with enticing scents that ebb and flow smoothly as you waft these nugs around.

The Taste Test

I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer and a Pax portable vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.

I had some difficulty with the taste of the strain, Josh D OG. I found the taste to be over complicated, like eating a handful of spices all at once. This strain, however, strikes a much finer balance.

There’s a rich layer of earthy flavors that spark to life on the tongue within mere moments of this cannabis hitting your lips. And the limonene terpene sends you home with each exhale, leaving a gentle citrus flavor in your mouth afterwards.

Each inhale was like taking in one strain, and each exhale felt like exhaling a completely different strain. Like inhaling the east coast and exhaling the west coast. I found the mixture intoxicating and exciting, even though I was bewildered by how the terpenes were settling. I would highly recommend a flavorful arabica coffee, or a dry red wine, to add some extra notes to this already spicy and exotic strain.

Medicinal Benefits and Side Effects I Noted

The medicinal benefits noted below are for educational purposes only, and are not a substitute for the advice of a medical practitioner or licensed bud tender.

Josh D OG Kush Story is a Tier II Ohio medical cannabis strain. It contains 28.73% THCA  and 25.93% THC, as well as 0.11% CBDA and 0.0% CBD.

I had run the day before medicating with this strain. A string of horrible storms had swept across Cleveland, Akron and most of Northern Ohio, leaving downed power lines and devastation to Ohio crops. It also left a humid air that did nothing but swell my joints.

On top of this swelling, battling complex PTSD can be difficult, especially during trying times, as these are with my family. My budtender directed me to Josh D OG Kush Story because it contained a good amount of CBDA, which would help with relaxation.

Within minutes of medicating with this strain, I felt far more relaxed. I was excited to just sit and marathon some cult horror movies. My thoughts drifted away from anxiety and my joints felt relaxed and calm. I didn’t feel very productive, but I did feel some creative energy.

My pain levels only declined slightly, which was disappointing. I love a good strain that can ease the burden of inflammation. But the trade off was a wonderfully soothing experience that provided the tools I needed to unwind after a very tough week. That said, I still reached for the Advil to treat that pain.

Final Thoughts on OG Kush Story

The story behind this legendary strain is as extraordinary as the strain itself. Josh D OG Kush Story is an excellent strain for unwinding after a tough day. For those with PTSD, this may be a good strain to try out, but be sure to consult your budtender first. For those who like an exotic taste and a calming sensation, this OG gets it done right.
