Packaging: First Impressions

Woodward Fine Cannabis released this “Limited Edition” flavor drop in November 2019. Quantities are somewhat limited for these special strains. You can get more details about the flavor drop here.

Packaging for this strain is quite similar to Woodward’s previous designs, like Blueberry Cheesecake. Patients get treated to a fairly easy to open, recyclable clear plastic bottle. Design for this “Limited Edition” collection of strains features a rad retro 80s and 90s vibe, with bright neon colors and plenty of ‘tude (attitude). Once again, Woodward knocks it out of the park with the best logo/bottle designs in the state, and one of the most functional, audience-appeasing bottles.

Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle

Animal Face #2 is a very pretty strain, with striking amber pistils and creamy trichomes standing out amidst a robust sea of greens, ranging from faint grass greens to lush, deep pines.

Nugs in my bottle were somewhat brittle, with low-medium density. They ranged in size, from the about the shape of a nickel to the size of a quarter.

If I had one gripe — my bottle didn’t really contain a standout nug. There were a few decent buds in the bottle, but many were broken up, or just misshapen. This is likely the strain’s design, to be honest, so I can’t really fault Woodward. I just would have loved one larger, hearty nug in my bottle.

How Does It Grind?

Animal Face #2 is fairly brittle to the touch. As such, it grinds quickly and efficiently, crumbling to a perfect vaping consistency in just under 10 turns.

This is a low-medium density bud, so patients shouldn’t expect this one to be a giving tree once ground. That said, about 2-3 nugs should yield about 2 bowls worth of plant material for vaping.

Smell Before Vaping

Animal Face #2 is one of Woodward’s “Limited Edition” flavor drops, released in November 2019. As such, I was thoroughly expecting this one to boast a unique aroma and flavor, and it did not disappoint. Animal Face #2 is a boldly scented strain, with a powerful aroma that’s likely to be a favorite among Ohio cannabis enthusiasts.

There’s a strong burst of diesel right out of the gate, reminiscent of Riviera Creek’s Garlic Cookies. It hits you as soon as you twist open the bottle, and will fill a room in moments if you leave that bottle open.

The scent is robust and powerful, but also strangely inviting and soothing. This is followed by a swirling mixture of aromas that were initially a little hard to lock down. But after a few returns to the bottle to absorb this strain’s scent once more, the sparkling citrus notes came to the surface, along with a rich aroma akin to licorice. I was particularly fond of the licorice scent, which adds a lot of depth and complexity to this strain’s aroma.

The Taste Test

I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.

Animal Face #2 brings its aroma to life once vaped, delivering a wonderfully unique flavor that oddly reminded me of Asian food, particularly Siam Fried Rice. That’s likely because the initial hit from this strain provides an earthy palette, with floral and rooty accents of jasmine and ginger, and a distinct diesel flavor, with fumes threading a mild dry mustard taste into every exhalation. Each of these flavors — jasmine, ginger and mustard –can be found in many Asian dishes.

The diesel fumes are followed by a lovely hint of orange as well as pine, each competing for attention with every inhalation. Animal Face #2 finishes with a smooth licorice flavor that lasts on the tongue for about 2-4 minutes after vaping … and is exquisite.

At times, this strain comes on strong, perhaps too strong, but the tasty, sweet finish, and ginger accents throughout, are worth the price of admission alone. This strain would pair very well with a ginger tea, or a glass of rock and rye or honey mead.

Medicinal Benefits and Side Effects I Noted

Note: The medicinal benefits noted in this strain profile are for educational purposes only, and are not a substitute for the advice of a medical practitioner or licensed budtender.

Animal Face #2 by Woodward Fine Cannabis is a sativa hybrid strain. The bottle that I purchased contained cannabis with 31% THC and 0.01% CBD.

My medical marijuana patient consultant suggested I try this strain for relaxation, euphoria and creativity, as well as mild pain relief.

Not only is Animal Face #2 tasty, it is also pretty potent. This Tier 2 30% strain delivers a strong headband effect that slowly trails down the spine, and yields an equally strong euphoria that helped me with stress and tension.

Pain in my joints, as well as muscle tension, also eased up. I felt an enormous sense of creative energy. Within moments of vaping, I was up and moving around, writing, doing chores, and exercising.

The effects of this strain last a pretty long time, which was a welcome surprise. I tend to find that sativa strains let up pretty quickly, with the euphoria and energy effects wearing off less than an hour after vaping. That wasn’t the case with this strain. I vaped this one in the morning and could still feel mild bursts of energy just before the evening.

Final Thoughts on Animal Face #2

Animal Face #2 is an excellent sativa hybrid that rejuvenates, relaxes and releases stress. It was also a great choice for a flavor drop from Woodward as this one is rich with tasty ginger accents. While Animal Face #2 is “Limited” at the time of publishing this article, I would love to see it added to Woodward’s regular strains, like Wedding Cake.

Please be aware: Percentages of THC, CBD and terpene profiles can vary greatly between cannabis harvests. This means that some strains profiled at 420oh.io will contain higher, exact or lower percentages of active chemical compounds when purchased at Ohio medical marijuana dispensaries during different harvest seasons.

Greens and oranges are hidden under a thick layer of creamy trichomes. These trichomes mute color quite a bit, but their stickiness suggests plenty of active chemical compounds.

What’s immediately noticeable is just how well trimmed this strain is compared to some others on the market. There’s no excess leaves or even thick stems —
