Take A Hike With This Powerful Sativa Strain.

Packaging: First Impressions
Pure Ohio Wellness cannabis is grown in Springfield, just outside Dayton, Ohio. Hiker’s Blend comes packed in a black plastic bottle produced by Pollen Gear. The bottle can be opened simply by squeezing two opposite corners at once, making this cannabis easy to open for patients with pain or neuropathy in their hands or fingers.
The bottle is also recyclable, which is a big plus for earth-conscious cannabis users. My only gripe — and I feel a little like a broken record here — but patients cannot see the cannabis they are buying beforehand, which is a shame. Very few companies are offering cannabis packaging with a viewing window, but it is such a nice touch that puts patients at ease about the cannabis they are buying. That said, a simple black bottle with straightforward labeling is functional, recyclable, costs less, and does the trick for most patients.
Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle
Hiker’s Blend is not a very colorful strain, favoring an inky green palette that’s been glazed in creamy trichomes. Orange and amber pistils are fairly scant, with only a few dozen noted on each cola. No purples or other colors seemed to stand out with this strain.
Nugs in my bottle were about the size of a quarter or smaller, with a small bonus amount of shake in the bottle as well. These nugs are well cured, not too brittle or too soft to the touch. This should make grinding easy.
This strain is not an out-and-out stunner up close, but there’s some uniqueness to be had from Hiker’s Blend by Pure Ohio. But don’t expect this one to win any cannabis nug beauty contests.
How Does It Grind?
Hiker’s Blend by Pure Ohio Wellness features some very well-cured buds, which made grinding very simple on the hands and fingers.
About 7-8 dime-sized nugs, sporting medium to thick density, yielded about 3 bowls of ground bud ready for vaping. Not too bad!
Grinding this strain to a nice vaping consistency is pretty easy. Less than a dozen turns and I was ready to rock and roll. Density of the colas is pretty decent, so expect this strain to act as a sort of giving tree, providing more ground flower than you’d expect.
Smell Before Vaping
Pure Ohio Wellness did not provide a terpene profile for Hiker’s Blend, but they did note that this strain should taste like cherry, pine and lime, suggesting there’s at least limonene and pinene present. This is pretty noticeable as soon as you open the bottle, too. Expect this strain to hit your nostrils and send your senses whirling.
I was immediately reminded of the sweet aroma of my grandfather’s old cigar boxes. He used to give them to me for storage and I’d spend hours just opening the box and enjoying that sweet, rustic cherry aroma. The same can be said for Hiker’s Blend, a strain that delivers a rich, sweet burst followed by subtle pine notes, and just a faint hint of diesel.
If the name, Hiker’s Blend, was meant to recall feelings of hiking in the woods while enjoying a pipe of cherry tobacco, Pure Ohio Wellness has wholeheartedly succeeded. This strain smells absolutely delightful.
The Taste Test
I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.
Hiker’s Blend continues to surprise with its rustic, woody flavor. The cherry notes take something of a backseat as pine becomes the dominant aroma while vaping. This is finished by a slight spicy undercurrent, like a hint of jasmine or cumin on the tongue. The combination is not very strong, but gentle and invigorating.
Again, it would seem Pure Ohio Wellness is aiming to create a rustic, earthy cannabis that reminds its user of going on a refreshing morning hike — the playful aroma of the pines whirling around you as you walk. Later bags opened up this palette, including more of the cherry aroma noted above.
This strain would pair wonderfully with an oaked red wine, a cigar or pipe of cherry tobacco, or a glass of herbal tea, something warm and earthy.

Hiker’s Blend by Pure Ohio Wellness is a sativa strain. The bottle that I purchased from my dispensary contained cannabis with 25.7% THC and 0.13% CBD.
I was directed to Hiker’s Blend by my medical marijuana patient consultant because it had gotten rave reviews from customers who had tried it out already. Known for its subtle euphoria and creeping energy, Hiker’s Blend might just inspire patients to go for a hike after medicating.
I was immediately transported to the middle of an empty forest after vaping my first bag, enjoying the pines and chilled morning air, sprinkled with frost. Not long after medicating, I decided to do just that — go for a hike in the nearby woods, fresh with the first Ohio snow of fall 2019.
Some strains are great for reducing inflammation, while others seem to help by lessening the pain. This strain leaned a little more on the lessen pain side of things. That’s not to say it didn’t help with my pain, though. Rather, Hiker’s Blend delivered energy in bursts that slowly engaged my senses, eventually sparking an urge to exercise and be productive.
This strain would be great for those who need a good morning pickup. Like a cup of coffee, this sativa will give a jolt to your mind and body without throwing you into couchlock or overloading your senses with too much euphoria.
Final Thoughts on Hiker's Blend
Pure Ohio has done a wonderful job painting a vivid picture with Hiker’s Blend. Through and through, this strain tastes and smells exactly as its labeled — a hiker’s blend of cherry, pine and rustic spices, carefully nuanced to emulate a delightful outdoor aroma, but also strong enough to transport the user to this destination.
