Packaging: First Impressions

Ice Cream Cake is bottled under the label, Local Cannabis Co. This indica hybrid strain, a cross of Wedding Cake and Gelato #33, is cultivated by Caylx Peak out of Akron, Ohio. This strain also won the famed Emerald Cup in 2019.

I finally got my hands on the new brand, Local Cannabis Company, from Calyx Peak. I love the new design of these bottles — it’s sleeker and elegant, with a great logo. The details on the back of the bottle are also fantastic, listing terpene details percentages.

Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle

Up close, Ice Cream Cake, is absolutely coated in trichomes, so much that very little color outside of pine peaks through this flower. Even pistils are subdued, flattened and covered by a sea of foamy trichomes.

That’s not to say this strain isn’t stunning. I found myself bewildered by the trichome formations, especially the clusters. It reminded me of a fall Ohio frost.

How Does It Grind?

There were about a half dozen colas in my 2.83 gram bottle. The nugs were a little dry, but softened pretty quickly with a humidity pack. These nugs are sticky to the touch, and grind a little tough, so if you have pain in your hands or fingers you may want to have a caretaker grind this one for you.

Smell Before Vaping

Ice Cream Cake has a sweet aroma that reminded me of fresh cut limes. There’s also a strong hops through-thread that opens up when ground, accented by floral hints, like lavender and magnolia. The mixture is like a refreshing hard lemonade.

The Taste Test

I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.

Ice Cream Cake leans a little more on the hops flavor when vaped, stepping back into the lime flavor the longer you vape this strain. The lime notes are still noticeable with the first few hits, particularly in the aftertaste, but the minty, almost peppery, floral accents deliver a smooth, relaxing flavor, with just a subtle bite.

Medicinal Benefits and Side Effects I Noted

Note: The medicinal benefits noted in this strain profile are for educational purposes only, and are not a substitute for the advice of a medical practitioner or licensed budtender.

Medicinally, Ice Cream Cake was recommended by my licensed budtender for relaxation, stress and anxiety reduction, as well as aid with sleep.

The effects of this one crept up on me. Honestly, I vaped one bag of this strain and barely felt anything. It wasn’t until about midway through my second bag where I started to notice a warm sensation in my joints, especially my toes.

By the end of my second bag, my back, legs and feet were practicality glued to my couch, and all I wanted to do was rest and sleep. In lesser words, be prepared for this strain to calm you right down before bed.

Inflammation was reduced quite significantly during my experience as well, and anxiety and tension followed, melting away the longer I vaped.

That said, this isn’t a great strain for creativity or energy, so be warned. Vaping this strain in the mornings will probably leave you in bed. But if you’re in the market for a late night strain before sleep, this is one to test out!

Final Thoughts on Ice Cream Cake

Ice Cream Cake is an award-winner for good reason — it’s one of the most relaxing strains I’ve tried in Ohio! Be prepared to be wiped out by this one, but for those who struggle with anxiety, stress, or have difficulty sleeping, you should try this one out while it’s still on dispensary shelves in Ohio.

Please be aware: Percentages of THC, CBD and terpene profiles can vary greatly between cannabis harvests. This means that some strains profiled at 420oh.io will contain higher, exact or lower percentages of active chemical compounds when purchased at Ohio medical marijuana dispensaries during different harvest seasons.

I haven’t tried Orange 43 as I’m not a fan of White OG typically, odd considering one of my all-time favorite cultivars (and preferred daily med) is Josh D OG Kush by Josh D Farms particularly. I’ve had other Brand/Farms’ and they’ve been great, but ultimately not as good as Josh D Farms. Go figure! 😀 I have to say that I’ve read online some horrible things about CalyxPeak (Company that puts out SONG and JDF I believe.) from alleged, anonymous former employees, but I have no way of verifying any of the allegations and can only say I’ve never once encountered a less than premium cannabis product from the Josh D label, no matter the strain, for the past couple years. I will continue to rely on that experience until I see convincing evidence of sub-standard products/practices/et cetera.
