Packaging: First Impressions

Rainbow Zen is an indica-dominant hybrid strain cultivated by Pure Ohio Wellness out of Springfield, Ohio. I’ve mentioned this container before in my review of Strawberry Cough. I really dig the clear plastic bottle, though I’m not the biggest fan of the pinch off top. That said, labeling is clear, the logo is terrific, and the bottle is recyclable.

I purchased an 8.49 gram bottle. The cannabis was tightly packed into the container, but not so much that bud broke up as I pulled nugs from the bottle.

Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle

Up close, Rainbow Zen offers a dazzling assortment of colors throughout each nug. There’s a striking layer of purple on the undercoat of the pine leaves, as well as bright sparks of orange.

The bud itself is fairly dense, with the largest nug in my bottle being about the size of two quarters. This is a leafier cannabis, so expect some crumbling leaves.

This strain also grinds a little sticky, so be warned. But 3-4 nugs should deliver a good 4-5 bowls for vaping.

Smell Before Vaping

The aroma of Rainbow Zen is quite subtle at first glance. There’s an earthy burst that hits you as soon as you open the bottle, followed by a gentle, sweet through-thread that reminded me of a blueberry garden. The longer I inhaled this strain, the more prominent that aroma became. This odor intensified after grinding, too, smelling almost like a fresh package of Trix cereal. Yum!

The Taste Test

I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.

The sweet aroma of Rainbow Zen translates to a somewhat more grounded strain when vaped. I could taste hints of that blueberry flavor from the aroma, but it was masked by a more robust diesel-like flavor, finishing with a peppery bite. There’s a corn-like sweetness that I noticed throughout the vaping experience. It was rather unique, and I found myself returning for more that specific flavor.

Alas, I struggled to locate terpene details or even a full original for this strain online (it’s possible a cross of Rainbow and Zen strains?), so I wasn’t sure which terpene triggered that flavor. Regardless, Rainbow Zen offers a mysterious profile that’s sure to entice cannabis enthusiasts.

Medicinal Benefits and Side Effects I Noted

Note: The medicinal benefits noted in this strain profile are for educational purposes only, and are not a substitute for the advice of a medical practitioner or licensed budtender.

Rainbow Zen is cultivated by Pure Ohio Wellness. It is an indica-dominant hybrid strain, likely a cross of Rainbow and Zen strains. The bottle I purchased contained cannabis with 24.9% THC and 0.0% CBD.

This strain was recommended for its gastrointestinal benefits, its unique flavor, and anti-inflammation properties.

This indica takes a few moments to get going before powering up and tweaking the senses with ample doses of euphoria and energy.

I had been suffering from some stomach issues, and tried this strain to alleviate some pain. I was surprised to discover how well it worked for relieving pain in the area, as well as surface inflammation around my joints, though the effect only lasted a few hours.

This strain gave me a nice burst of energy as well, which I used for some creative projects. And by the end of my vaping experience I was settled in and ready for bed.

With so many great indica options available on the Ohio medical marijuana market, it’s difficult to choose a favorite, but I will be adding Rainbow Zen to my list of regular go-tos for gastrointestinal issues.
