Packaging: First Impressions

Weekend in Marseille is cultivated by Wellspring Fields out of Ravenna, Ohio. As mentioned in my Forest of Azure review, I really dig the design of this bottle. Design is great, with a modern aesthetic, a recyclable bottle, and a great logo.

But as mentioned before in my Forest of Azure review, I would really love to see Wellspring Fields switch to a clear plastic bottle, so patients can see the cannabis they are buying. The pinch-off lid is also not my favorite. It works well the first few times it’s opened, but wears down after a while, which makes the bottle much harder to open.

Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle

The 5.66 gram bottle that I purchased from my Ohio medical marijuana dispensary contained a great assortment of nugs, varying from larger quarter-sized nugs to small popcorn pieces.

This bud has an old school appearance to it, with a leafy, wider indica structure. Pistils are the real standout here. There’s a wide depth of oranges to be found throughout the calyx structures, from reddish ambers to an almost sherbet-like orange.

The pistils are complemented by a very thick layer of beautiful trichomes. At times, the trichomes almost look like yellow dew drops on the leaves. Just stunning!

Bud colas in my bottle were well-cured — not too soft or too dry. Nugs grind fairly easily, but can be a little sticky. If you have pain in your hands or fingers, you may want to have a caretaker grind this strain. But otherwise, it should grind down perfectly.

Smell Before Vaping

The aroma of Weekend in Marseille is rather subtle at first, almost earthy, but once you grind this one up, you will immediately notice a subtle orange sweetness to this strain, complemented by a spicy dash of hops and floral notes. Ultimately, I was a little underwhelmed by the potency of the aroma, but not all buds have that super dank odor.

The Taste Test

I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.

When vaped, Weekend in Marseille embraces its gassy, hops-like aroma, fully transforming the subtle, sweeter aroma of this bud into a more earthy, spicy concoction. There’s a floral through-thread that opens up the longer you vape, and the subtle orange notes of the aroma remain only in the aftertaste. There’s also a mild bite to this one that reminded me vaguely of cumin or cinnamon.

This strain is not strong on the lips, which is actually really good. The flavor here is very complex and rich, almost like a topping for a steak or salmon, so you really wouldn’t want it tasting much stronger than it already is. Ultimately, while I found the flavor a little rugged, I enjoyed the way each individual terpene engaged the senses. At times, it was like sampling a three-course meal!

Medicinal Benefits and Side Effects I Noted

Note: The medicinal benefits noted in this strain profile are for educational purposes only, and are not a substitute for the advice of a medical practitioner or licensed budtender.

Weekend in Marseille by Wellspring Fields is an indica strain. The bottle I purchased contained cannabis with 23.5% THC and 0.0% CBD.

This strain was recommended for it’s unique terpene profile, which includes Carophyllene, Myrcene, Limonene and Valencene. Together, these terpenes deliver a one-two punch of relaxative effects and anti-inflammation properties.

Once vaped, I found myself in a calming state of euphoria, with a strong headband effect that rolled around my temples and, frankly, made it a little tough to do my regular daily tasks.

Soon, I found myself couch-locked with calming euphoria, and in a deep state of relaxation. The sensation only intensified as I continued to medicate with this strain, before peaking around my third vape bag.

I had been suffering from some tendinitis recently as well, which had led to some mild swelling and a tiresome limp. I reached for this strain right away, and was not disappointed. While the anti-inflammation effects weren’t as profound as 10th Planet by Galenas, they were enough to ease the pain and inflammation in my ankle, and reduce my limp.

Final Thoughts on Weekend in Marseille

While not necessarily my go-to indica, Weekend in Marseille is a spicy, beautiful bud, with a great terpene profile that provides plenty of relaxation and anti-inflammatory properties. This head-heavy indica should help you unwind after a tough day, and wipe out just before bed.
