Ohio Medical Marijuana Strain Review:
Forest of Azure by
Wellspring Fields
Talk a Walk Through This Mysterious Forest...

Packaging: First Impressions
Forest of Azure Ohio medical marijuana is cultivated by Wellspring Fields in Ravenna, Ohio. I really dig the design of this bottle. It’s simple and elegant, with a modern aesthetic, a great logo and easy to read print.
Patients cannot see the cannabis they are buying with this strain, but the bottle makes up for it by being recyclable. It is also fairly easy to open (simply pinch the top).
My lone complaint here is that this bottle is better suited for quantities lower than 5.66 grams, which was what was crammed into my bottle. Don’t get me wrong — the cannabis all fit. But it was a snug fit that resulted in a bit of shake by the end of the bottle, and more than a few crushed buds. Ultimately, this doesn’t really hurt the potency of the cannabis, but it will undoubtedly annoy or upset some patients.
Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle
This strain is called Forest of Azure, which roughly translates to “Blue Forest” or “Forest of Blue.” Up close, I scoured the surface of a few colas in search of any blue hues, but could only detect the usual suspects — pine green from the leaves, gentle amber hues from the pistils, and creamy white trichomes.
This bud tends to lean a bit faded, with heavy layering of trichomes muting much of the green undercoat. Pistils were also faint, with less color than the pistils I found on Purple Bomb, for example.
Also, as noted above, buds in my bottle were a little crushed. This didn’t really damage the nugs at the top of my bottle, but did damage just a few nugs towards the bottom. These crushed buds resulted in about one or two bowls worth of shake.
How Does It Grind?
Buds in my bottle were each about the size of a quarter. Not too brittle or too soft. Forest of Azure grinds quickly and efficiently.
Two quarter-sized nugs were dropped into my grinder. In about nine turns I had flower ready to be vaped — enough for about 2-3 bowls. I did find that this strain ground a little sticky, but not so much that patients with pain in their hands or fingers should struggle too much.
If you find yourself struggling to grind any cannabis, be sure to open that grinder and break up the buds a little more. This should result in an easier grind.
Smell Before Vaping
This strain reminds me of a superhero — appearing one way in an action setting, and another way in a personal setting. In this case, Forest of Azure actually smells different before and after grinding.
Before grinding, this cannabis has a clean, earthy smell. There’s strong notes of fresh cut grass, a savory hint of cheese, and a slight tea-like scent that refreshes the palette with each inhalation. It’s subtle and calming, like standing at the foot of a gentle river.
Once ground, this cannabis opens up tremendously! A pronounced diesel aroma crashes through the gates, perfectly complimented by sugary lemon accents.
I literally set the nugs next to the ground cannabis and kept switching back and forth between them. I’ve never noted a cannabis strain that smelled so vastly different once ground. Needless to say, I dug both aromas and found the striking juxtaposition of each to be worth the price of admission alone.
The Taste Test
I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.
With two distinct aromas, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect once Forest of Azure was vaped. And I was pleasantly surprised that this strain actually retained both the earthy and diesel aromas after vaping.
The earthy palette takes a front seat as a dominating flavor when inhaling. This is followed by a strong burst of diesel fumes and a mild, spicy aftertaste. There’s also a very subtle lemony sweetness to the exhale that can’t be overlooked.
This strain does hold a little bite after finishing each vaped cannabis bag. And the diesel fumes will swim on your tastebuds for a few minutes after finishing this strain. But the smooth green flavor of Forest of Azure had me hankering for a good mid-day hike. This cannabis would pair best with a good herbal tea, or even a dry white wine.
Medicinal Benefits and Side Effects I Noted
Note: The medicinal benefits noted in this strain profile are for educational purposes only, and are not a substitute for the advice of a medical practitioner or licensed budtender.
Forest of Azure is a sativa strain. It was grown and cultivated by Wellspring Fields in Ravenna, Ohio. The bottle that I purchased contained cannabis with 27% THC and 0.01% CBD.
My medical marijuana patient consultant suggested that Forest of Azure was best used for creativity, energy and a smooth mind and body euphoria that eases pain.
And that is a fairly accurate description of how Forest of Azure worked for me. I found myself filled with creative drive, excited to work on a few writing projects I’ve been putting off. My body’s aches and pains were no longer the burden they had been only moments prior. I was able to exercise with little difficulty or pain.
Euphoria with this strain is pretty notable, but leans full body. I enjoyed the mild headband effect, as well as the radiating effect on my bones, almost like a smooth beat. It provided me energy and activated my mind.
Naturally, this sativa is best for mornings or mid-day, and won’t help much with sleeping. In fact, I suspect that vaping this one at night will keep you up drawing, writing … or playing video games.
Final Thoughts on Forest of Azure
Forest of Azure is a magical morning or mid-day sativa. It provides smooth bursts of relaxation and wanderlust — enough to get you ready to explore the day.

Please be aware: Percentages of THC, CBD and terpene profiles can vary greatly between cannabis harvests. This means that some strains profiled at 420oh.io will contain higher, exact or lower percentages of active chemical compounds when purchased at Ohio medical marijuana dispensaries during different harvest seasons.
This strain is striking, to say the least. It features a wide array of colors on the surface of the colas ranging from rich, inky purples hiding throughout the nugs, to lush pine greens and grass greens on the leaves.
A wonderfully soothing experience that provided the tools I needed to unwind after a very tough week.
One of those strains that tastes like it smells. … subtly sweet, followed by a tiny hint of pine, adding a peppery aftertaste. …finished by a smooth floral accent, almost like fresh daisies.
