Packaging: First Impressions
I had mentioned in my review of Josh D OG Kush Story that Calyx Peak’s labels, Josh D and Song, were soon to change their packaging. And now, after months of waiting, I’ve finally got my hands on a new bottle — and boy is it a marked improvement!
The white glass of the previous bottle has been replaced with a clear glass. This allows patients to be able to see the cannabis they are buying. Presumably, like most glass, this bottle is also recyclable, which is great!
Design and labeling has also changed, and improved, significantly, with easier to read labels, a slightly more elegant design, and an easy-open lid. This is about as good as it gets in terms of packaging. Well done, Calyx Peak.
Cannabis Look: Out of the Bottle
This is one sticky, stinky strain, with thick trichomes so sticky your fingers may even get tacky just handling these nugs. Bud colas in my bottle were about the size of a quarter or slightly smaller. These buds are dense and hearty.
The appearance of this strain reminded me of a really thick morning frost, or after an ice storm, where the leaves harden and almost crystallize, breaking when you touch them.
Green and oranges are hidden under a thick layer of creamy trichomes. These trichomes mute color quite a bit, but their stickiness suggests plenty of active chemical compounds. Not a bad trade off for a lack of color.
How Does It Grind?
A sticky cannabis will yield an equally sticky grind, as is the case with this strain, which took me more than a dozen turns to get Ghost OG ground down to a good consistency for vaping.
Patients with pain in their hands or fingers should consider a heavy duty grinder, or asking a caretaker for help with your bud.
Surprisingly, this strain didn’t provide as much dry flower as I would have expected considering the density of these nugs. As such, patients should expect about a 1:1 ratio — 2 bowls for 2 nugs.
Smell Before Vaping
Ghost OG will hit you hard as soon as you open the bottle. This strain leans on a fresh, green scent, likely thanks to the Myrcene terpene, which provides a floral through-thread that’s absolutely stunning to behold. This is followed by a slightly sweet, citrus burst — almost like hard strawberry candy.
I felt as though I were walking through a forest right after a fresh spring rainstorm, just as all the trees and wildlife sparked back to life, each releasing gentle fragrances in the air. The scent is refreshing, rejuvenating and bold.
That said, Ghost OG won’t fill a room with its odor, so those living in apartments, or with roommates, needn’t worry about this strain’s aroma filling whatever space it has. Rather, you’ll need to get up close to the nugs to really capture the essence of this strain’s scent.
The Taste Test
I vaped this medical cannabis with an Arizer ExtremeQ vaporizer. I like to start my first bag at a lower temperature to open the terpenes, and work up to a higher temp to vaporize the cannabinoids.
The gentle forest scents of Ghost OG translate to a rather spicy tasting cannabis strain. In fact, Ghost OG is one of the spicier tasting strains I’ve tried in Ohio. There’s even a slight bite to this strain that felt hot, like chili peppers. Perhaps Ghost OG, named for being a clipping of OG Kush, can also be a reference to ghost peppers?
Regardless, Ghost OG leans on the Caryophyllene terpene, yielding a strong initial floral taste, with a just a slight hint of diesel flavor as you exhale, and a smooth, sweet finish. I also detected a burst of cumin or coriander, as well hops. And again … I noted just a slight heat to this one, like a pepper. It’s not gonna burn your tongue or anything, so don’t fret. It actually provides a wonderfully refreshing aftertaste.
This strain would likely pair very well with a dry red wine or a strong black tea. Pairing this one as an evening companion to a sativa strain like Chiesel would also be an excellent idea.
Medicinal Benefits and Side Effects I Noted
Note: The medicinal benefits noted in this strain profile are for educational purposes only, and are not a substitute for the advice of a medical practitioner or licensed budtender.
Ghost OG by Josh D (Calyx Peak) is an indica strain. The bottle I purchased from a licensed Ohio medical marijuana dispensary contained 32.17% THC and 0.12% CBD.
This is a classic Josh D strain, a clipping on OG Kush, that has gained a following of its own. And that’s with good reason, as Ghost OG yields a different experience than Josh D OG Kush Story.
I was directed by a patient consultant to try this strain for pain and inflammation relief, in addition to stress relief and help with sleeping. I felt the effects of this strain right away, as it melted pain and tension from my muscles, and gave me a sense of relaxation in the process.
I didn’t feel subduded or couch-locked. Rather, there’s just enough sativa in this strain to give me that push to keep working out, or continue with my chores for the day.
And better is the relaxation! By my third vaped bag of Ghost OG, I was feeling calm and blissful, with very mild euphoria and an extreme sense of wellness.
Considering the stress I was under during the day, I was shocked by how quickly and effectively this one worked to relieve my tension.
Though relaxed, this one gave me a little too much energy for slumber. I find that a strain like Inception works a little better for sleep.
Final Thoughts on Ghost OG
I was truly impressed with what Ghost OG had to offer. This indica is sticky, spicy, and packed with relaxation. This is a great strain to try after a stressful day of work, or after a tough, emotional day.

Please be aware: Percentages of THC, CBD and terpene profiles can vary greatly between cannabis harvests. This means that some strains profiled at 420oh.io will contain higher, exact or lower percentages of active chemical compounds when purchased at Ohio medical marijuana dispensaries during different harvest seasons.
Method of cultivation is greener, using far less water and energy than traditional grows. The facility even utilizes a proprietary LED light setup that uses less energy and speeds up his harvest time.
A real stunner up close, with a rich array of colors, from bright amber hues to inky pine greens. Each cola lives up to its name, accented by an explosion of deep, rich purples.
