Ohio Medical Marijuana Harvest Time At Galenas
A Sneak Peek At What's Coming This Spring From Galenas!
Article & Photos by: Randy Shaffer
New year! New strains!
Back in 2019, our team at 420 Ohio got a sneak peek inside Galenas during their ribbon cutting ceremony in July. Their team was kind enough to invite us back to their facility to take a look at what they have in store for Ohio medical marijuana patients in 2020.
For those unaware, Galenas, located in Akron, Ohio, is the Buckeye State’s first (and currently only) Certified Kind, organic cannabis cultivator. Their cannabis is grown in soil, and fed organic nutrients and treated with organic pesticides.
This translates to a well-balanced, healthy plant that hasn’t been fed or treated with potentially harmful chemicals. And this team … they seriously love these plants!
I arrived at the facility on harvest day, and the cultivation team was hard at work taking down plants and preparing them for drying.
This drying process will take several weeks, which means that this January 2020 harvest won’t be on shelves until a little later this winter/early spring. But the entire team was buzzing about their latest harvest.
“We have some seriously awesome strains coming up,” Elizabeth Hoyack Falkenstein, Director Quality Assurance & Compliance for Galenas, stated. “I’m particularly excited about 10th Planet. Colas as big as fists!”
A Fresh Start...
Like any perfectionist, the cultivation team at Galenas is always looking to improve with each harvest. For their spring 2020 crop, Galenas has chosen to start fresh, with a new batch of strains. In other words, don’t expect to see Lemon G or Dark Helmet on shelves this spring … at least for now.
“We wanted to test new strains and new phenos,” Will Fithian, Marketing Director for Galenas, noted. “And these strains are just extraordinary. They’ve produced more potent and more effective cannabis for patients.”
These plants were harvested between December 30th 2019 and January 3rd 2020. This process involves undoing the weaving that holds the plants together, and cutting the plants at the base. The buds are then trimmed and set out to dry for several days. This process is vital for cannabis plants, ensuring potent medicine for Ohio cannabis patients.
